The Modern Strangers + The Lightning Year + Living Dead Girl + Raffer

June 1 @ 7:00 pm - June 2 @ 12:00 am

THE MODERN STRANGERS: 10.00 - 10.30
We are very pleased to announce the return of The Modern Strangers to Nambucca after a fantastic performance at last year’s night run by BBC’s Abbie McCarthy.

Clash Magazine descibes them better than we can…

“What the world needs right now is some good vibes, some positive energy, some uplifting melodies.
Thankfully, brotherly duo The Modern Strangers are on hand to deliver some much needed fresh air.
The pair - Archie and Max - are still frighteningly new, but already they’re gaining comparisons to early MGMT, Phoenix, or even a more pop-heavy M83.
The band popped debut cut ‘Margarita’ online last year, and it quickly became a sensation racking up a stunning number of SoundCloud plays.
With The Modern Strangers organising only their second ever headline show for next month, the duo are ready to unveil their follow up track.
‘Vanilla’ is a crisp piece of pop bedlam, a refreshing piece of electronic synthesis that stays lodged in your head long after the final note crashes to a halt.
Tune in now.”

THE LIGHTNING YEAR: 9.15 - 9.45
The Lightning Year, (TLY) were born in the summer of 2016. Five eccentric musicians from South London who wanted to take the right side of psych rock and unite it with a greater electronic pop sensibility.
Twisted tales and anthems dedicated to the joys of love and strangeness, the perpetual motion of your head and your heart, They’re the soundtrack to the Road Movie in your mind, destination unknown.
Their debut self-produced single ‘Endless Memory‘ was mixed by Catherine Marks (Wolf Alice, The Amazons, Foals) and is released through enigmatic new Manchester/London Indie Nice Swan Records on 27th Jan.

LIVING DEAD GIRL: 8.30 - 9.00
Living Dead Girl is a dark electronic pop duo from Guildford. For fans of Ladytron, Grimes, Portishead and more.

‘The dark pop duo you have to hear’

‘Sombre and ethereal’

‘Atmospheric and introspective music for the masses’

‘Moody duo Living Dead Girl show that trip-hop is alive and kicking, at least when given an injection of synth-pop’

‘SBTRKT with a darker, atmospheric twist.’

The brainchild of multi-instrumentalists Jonno Lloyd and Jessica English, the band combines a distinctive fusion of ethereal vocals, electronic rhythms and unique compelling instrumentation.

Both growing up in a creative atmosphere, Jessica was classically trained in piano and vocals, while Jonno took guitar into industrial rock groups such as Ventenner. The two would work together for the first time in 2014, finding common ground somewhere between trip-hop, rock and electronic music. This unlikely meeting of styles would lead to the creation of the group’s dark yet accessible pop music, delivered with themes that move between fantastical escapism and pained reflection, leaving a classically haunting aftertaste.

The duo have now released their single ‘Skylines’ mixed and mastered by Chris Coulter (Arcane Roots).

RAFFER: 7.45 - 8.15
